The centre is compact: Piazza Walther with the cathedral, the medieval arcaded shopping lane known as Portici (Lauben), and the Fruit Market with its stalls. Everything is within walking distance. From the station, three cable cars climb straight to the Renon plateau, San Genesio and Colle — city and mountain without needing a car.
The city's most famous attraction is the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, home to Ötzi the Iceman — the roughly 5,300-year-old glacier mummy found in the Ötztal Alps in 1991.
